Vannessa Cherutto, whose name has been trending on social media for the wrong reasons, has denied claims that she is a 16-year-old famme fatale who dates an 80-year-old white man, infects Nairobi husbands with HIV and stars in sex orgies in the city.
Terming the stories as ‘malicious,’ Vannessa who drove to our offices in a brand new Subaru to set the record straight, said she is a 19-year-old sales consultant with a leading firm in town, and that she is currently studying for a diploma in Business Management. “I am not dating an 80-year-old mzungu. I work so hard for my money, and I use it to pay my school fees and bills,” she clarified.
Vannessa was alerted of the story doing round in blogs by her boss at the firm where she works. “She called me on Friday evening. It was Valentines Day, and she told me to read the story. I saw it and broke down. I cried. My love life is no one’s business,” said Vannessa. Explaining that her Subaru was bought by her fiancée, and that she also owns Toyota Vitz bought by her father, she agreed that she dates a mzungu boyfriend but he isn’t 80 years old. “He actually laughed so hard when he read the story. My father was not happy, but he told me that the issue will blow over,” says Vannessa.
“They said I was having unprotected sex with celebrities like Ephie Saint, yet I don’t even know that guy. I just want to apologise to my friends Shaffie and Nick Mutuma because some idiot dragged their names into this mess,” says Vannessa who lives in Valley Arcade. After the Hiv rumors surfaced, Vannessa went to a VCT centre and then posted her status on Facebook for all to see.
She is negative. She also got tested on video which she uploaded on a gossip website. She now plans to raise awareness on cyber bullying, and to form a unit that will counsel and aid victims. “I am a strong woman, I was raised by a single parent– my father. I will weather through this storm and come out stronger. I want to set up a support group for victims of cyber bullying,” she said.
